Goofs: Factual errors: While in the ambulance Mike and Lewis both talk about the wound in Mike's shoulder being a .50 Caliber wound. First off, the rifle that bad guy sniper used was a Blaser R93 Tactical which is only available in .223 (5.56mm), .308 (7.62mm), or .300WM, not .50 Caliber. Even if the rifle used was a .50 Caliber, the round would have taken Mike's arm and most of the shoulder clean off.

Plot: The leader of a drug cartel busts out of a courthouse and speeds to the Mexican border, where the only thing in his path is a sheriff and his inexperienced staff. Full summary »  »

Story: Sheriff Owens is a man who has resigned himself to a life of fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction after leaving his LAPD post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with failure and defeat after his partner was crippled. After a spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy, the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the hemisphere is hurtling toward the border at 200 mph in a specially outfitted car with a hostage and a fierce army of gang members. He is headed, it turns out, straight for Summerton Junction, where the whole of U.S. law enforcement will have their last opportunity to make a stand and intercept him before he slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately accepts responsibility for the face off. The Last Stand (2013) Review by bcbell79
I grew up Streaminging Arnold, I own every film of his, I am what you wouldcall a serious Schwarzenegger fan. I have waited a decade for hisreturn to the cinema, and I wasn't disappointed. The Last Stand isn'tperfect, but Arnold fans can rejoice, for he truly is back!!

The premise (for those that haven't Streaminged the trailer a dozen timeslike me) is a Mexican cartel boss (Eduardo Noriega) has escaped custodyduring transport and is heading to the Mexican border, and he is goingto get there by going through the sleepy town of Sommerton, Arizona.Arnold is the Sheriff in this sleepy little town, and he is the FBI'slast hope at stopping the ruthless gangster.

This movie is full of intense, bloody action, exciting car chases(thanks to a supped up Corvette ZR1 with over one thousand horsepower!)and funny one liner's. The film never takes itself too serious (whichis good thing) and is surprisingly funny throughout. Arnold's acting isa little rusty, but he more than made up for it in the action scenes. And the (many) action sequences were exciting and bloody, the theaterkept cheering out loud. The pacing was perfect, the film flew by.

The cast was great...Luis Guzman is hilarious as Arnold's Deputy,Forest Whitaker as the lead FBI agent, Peter Stormare as the maniacal"right hand man" villain, Johnny Knoxville as the town clown, HarryDean Stanton as the crotchety old farmer, the list goes on...

The film was everything I wanted from an Arnold movie, it's fun(!),full of fast paced action and lots of (funny) one liner's. Thenon-Arnold fan probably won't get much from this, but this movie wasmade for Arnold fans, and it delivers.

The Last Stand (2013) Review by imthegame19 from United States
The Last Stand is a very fast paced movie. It's about a hour and fortyminutes and it feels like twenty minutes shorter then that. For thisplot it was the perfect pacing for this movie. Woon did a great jobhere, because this movie could have easily been ruined with a differentdirector. Who could have gave this film a slower pace and made it moredrawn out. Which in my opinion wouldn't have worked well with thisscript. Now do I think they could have done some things better? Thecritic in me says yes. Not to mention it has it's cliché moments(mostmovies these days do though) and the fast pacing can cause you to belike wait how did he get here or there and ask yourself what justhappen. But I think you can come up with your own explanations on mostof those things if you need to.

I didn't feel like Arnold was on his A game acting wise though. Hewasn't bad, but I didn't feel he was as smooth with some of his linesas he normally is. Rust and working with a director who doesn't speakEnglish probably had a lot to do with that. Arnold is showing his agebit in this movie as well. Especially in his face on the big screen. That said they never pretended that he was 30 years old in this movie,so that was fine. Overall The Last Stand has exciting shoot outs, funcar chase scenes, and does a great job of mixing in comedy. Thosethings with it's pacing make it a very entertaining and crowd pleasingmovie that should be enjoyed in the theater. I give it a 8/10

The Last Stand (2013) Review by MisterWhiplash from United States
This is pure guilty-pleasure cinema. You know you can't defend seeinglots of nameless guys in black suits and machine guns mowing downpeople and that there's only a bullet here or there that might get oneof our good guys (and I mean, y'know, Luis Guzman, who is always fun toStreaming in that very familiar character-actor way by the way, same forHarry Dean Stanton's walk-on), and it hearkens back to that time in the1980's and 90's when Arnold Schwarzenegger dominated cineplexes withthis kind of action trash. But over time, as super glossy andhyper-kinetic and chaotically-shot cinema floods theaters, this almostcomes as something of a refreshment. How do I simply say "I gotthrilled by the action, laughed at the craziness in the set-pieces, andloved seeing Arnold tear it up and have one-line retorts: "How do youfeel?" asks a towns-person - "OLD!")

But aside from the story, which seems to be fairly cookie-cutter withthe Mexican cartel kingpin who is getting across from Nevada down tothe border to get back to his safe land, and with various tropes thatcan be read from not too far away (given some heft by the fact thatEduardo Noriega cuts a very sharp figure as a madman with a zest forstunt- driving - like a character one might find almost inRodriguez/Tarantino's Grindhouse, or a hybrid of such characters theywrite), what is there? How about that the director, Kim Jee-Woon, has atrack record from back in South Korea as being a hardcore,awe-inspiring action and genre director, who can make them very, veryintense and harrowing (I Saw the Devil), or truly spooky and harrowingin a quieter, more sinister way (Tale of Two Sisters). But what got himthe job, I suspect, was The Good, the Bad and the Weird, his wildhomage to everything Western - Spaghetti, yes, but good ol' Americanvariety. He must have read the script and said 'I can do this, this isa Western to the bone just in 21st century garb... matter of fact, it'sRio Bravo on steroids!'

Well, that's my suspicion anyway. Think about it - a Sheriff in a ponamtown with not many residents at all (and those that do stick around allday won't leave cause of some gunfire - there's a cheese omelettecooking after all at the diner), and has some good deputies, and someothers he has to recruit not by his better judgment but by lack ofother good officers, and has a Big Bad Motherflipper coming right hisway. "I've seen a lot of blood and death. I know what's coming," saysthe not-quite quipping Arnold. And the first half does build, somewhatdecently if predictably, the pieces of the characters, the basicset-ups of who may die (or will) and what betrayals are happening andwho knows what (and what, really, Forest Whitaker can do as the Man inCharge in the suit - powerful, but he's not a Schwarzenegger).

It's the second half of the film, as the preparations intensify andthen the big attack comes to Sommerton Junction (even the name is outof a Sam Fuller western or something) that the film REALLY picks upsteam. And by steam, I mean lots and lots of bullets, sometimes fromhuge guns that fire way too many bullets. What helps in Jee-Woon'sfavor in The Last Stand is how he takes the fantasy of all of this tosuch a degree that you (or I really) can't help but admire how high itends up going. It will please hardcore action fans, but unlike the onlyother recent Schwarzenegger films (so to speak) of the Expendablesfranchise, it doesn't really insult your intelligence either. Thevillains on display in this flick are not pushovers, and it leads tosome impressive action from the performers, from the cameramen, fromthe bullets themselves which become their own actors. And the finalchase through a cornfield, just when you think the film has nothingelse to give you, comes back for a surprise set-piece that feels freshand inventive; we haven't seen something quite like this where it's acat and mouse chase through such a big space of land, but we know it isjust a matter of seconds.

If you've grown up on Schwarzenegger flicks, it's like visiting theold(er) man at the condo, and jogging his memory full-throttle. I don'tknow if this is just a brief pop-up appearance for the (how do I writethis without laughing but he is) veteran action icon, or a third andfinal career trajectory after years as a bodybuilder/up-and-comer, andsuperstar. But for now, it'll do, Johnny Knoxville's rambunctiouscomic-timing not withstanding.
