Where to begin, it started promising enough, stylish camera angles,production looked OK, then the acting started. I'll rephrase that, theoveracting started. Another thing that was so annoying was the voiceover that helped introduce everyone, he shouted all the words in a poorattempt at sounding menacing. Yelling "yoo fackin cant!" for 15 minutesjust didn't do it for me, especially as that phrase made up an enormousamount of the dialogue. I had only just recently started Streaminging Britflicks again after seeing the brilliant 'The Bank Job' but this hasgiven me pause for thought. I realise this is a typical 'Saff Lundun'(South London) 'Essex' type gangster flick but it had enough style tofool me into thinking something special might be about to happen butdirector Paul Tanter is suited to these low budget, low expectationaffairs. Take his new project 'The Rise & Fall of a White CollarHooligan' (lol, what a fckng title), I rest my case.
The bottom line is, the acting was forced, the villains were planks ofwood, it was, however, well filmed but sadly the director has learnedlittle from his previous efforts and I didn't think much of thewriting. Wadja Streamingit for yoo cant? I hear you cry. It looked good inthe trailer and I'd seen another film based on the same story. My bad.

Not one of the best adaptations of the story.
Nothing you haven't seen before in the other versions, apart from thevery end (which I won't give away)and the slightly different viewpoint;it almost assumes that you've seen or read the story before and it hasthe familiar milestones. The acting isn't too bad, but the cutting ofthe scenes could have been a bit sharper, and the characters could havebeen introduced better. Again, if you're not familiar with the story,you'll wonder what's happening. It copies some story styles from othermovies, but without the same care and finesse. All the versions I'veseen and read about portray Tate as a psycho, but they all have thesame few stories about him. He was obviously wild, but he doesn't seemto have been prolific in his violence, more of a show-off. It does tryto be a quick fire narrative, but it comes across more as a badlyedited, amateur production. Disappointing.

I thought, Not another film about the Rettendon Murders. They say it isthe best British Gangster film in years since Lock Stock. May as wellStreaming it. Sounds great!.
What a let down. At first I wasn't sure how long I could listen to theoveracted narration of Darren Nichols. Shouting the story line like hewas on speed on a football terrace. Then the awful acting started.
Most of the scenes were badly cut and shot and the colour correctionand lighting was all over the place. Far too many technicaldistractions for me to sit and enjoy. Also, what was the casting on?Pat Tate was a mountain of a guy!
Lets hope this is the last film made about the "Essex Boys" and thatBritish gangster films see a new breed of quality actors and directorsin the future.
