Story: Four magicians each answer a mysterious summons to an obscure address with secrets inside. A year later, they are the Four Horseman, big time stage illusionists who climax their sold out Las Vegas show with a bank apparently robbed for real. This puts agents Dylan Rhodes of the FBI and Alma Vargas of Interpol on the case to find out how they did it. However, this mystery proves difficult to solve even with the insights of the professional illusion exposer, Thaddeus Bradley. What follows is a bizarre investigation where nothing is what it seems with illusions, dark secrets and hidden agendas galore as all involved are reminded of a great truth in this puzzle: the closer you look, the less you see. Now You See Me (2013) Review by griffolyon12 from United States
Imagine Now You See Me as Ocean's Eleven meets The Prestige and yousort of get what director Louis Leterrier was going for with this film.Is Now You See Me as successful as the aforementioned films? Notnecessarily, but it's a fun movie that deconstructs the acts of modernmagicians.

The story follows four Vegas magicians, known as the Four Horsemen, whorob a bank in the middle of one of their shows. What follows is acat-and-mouse thriller where the FBI chases after these magicians, always one step behind, trying to figure out how they did it.

Where Now You See Me works best is when Leterrier creates cinematicsequences showing us how these magicians used real-life magic tricks tobefuddle and dupe both their victims and the FBI. As well, if you wanta film with twists and turns, this one will not disappoint. While mostof the major twists can be found out before revealed, there is still ajoy in Streaminging those twists unfold, thanks to Leterrier's SherlockHolmes' style of visual deduction. However, the script often falters inone of the most crucial areas, that of character.

Leterrier and company are constantly trying to balance the breakneckpace with the large cast of characters, and it just leaves thecharacters hanging out to dry. Character development is sorely lackingin Now You See Me, to where I never really cared about any of thecharacters. Part of this is because the film is constantly shiftingpoints of view. The first thirty minutes follow our Robin Hood-likemagicians, and then it switches to the FBI agents tracking them down, but then the film has the magicians constantly one step in front of theFBI to the point that it makes the FBI often come across as buffoons, and I find it hard to care for characters who are so easily fooled.Ultimately, I feel that had the film focused entirely on one set ofcharacters, like the magicians or the FBI, the film would have beenstronger and been easier to find a focal point, but as it is the film'score is often muddled.

While Now You See Me may not be a grand slam, it's still entertaining, thanks to the thrills and visual style of the film. Bottom line, ifyou're a fan of the heist genre, you'll like this movie. For me though,it just lacks a further script rewrite to have become one of the bestexamples of the genre.

I give Now You See Me an 8 out of 10!

Now You See Me (2013) Review by slice-cody
When it comes to summer movies, this is about as good as it gets. Wegot to the movies to be entertained and lose ourselves for 2 hours fora price of an admission ticket. I can say without flinching that thiswas totally worth it.

The film was so much more enjoyable than I thought it would be fromStreaminging the trailers. It has a lot of wit, clever plot, suspense, magic, humor, twists, and action. It has something for everybody. Theacting was great overall and I really liked the characters. In my mind3 people stuck out. Mark ruffalo, Morgan freeman, and woody harrelson. They were great.

Overall I was surprised at how good the story was. Sure it won't winany Oscars but it takes a road at the end that nobody would see coming. It makes you want to go back and see it twice to understand it better, and just like all magic tricks, some of it can't be explained and youare left with no answer but to believe that what you saw was true. Andto me that's fun

Now You See Me (2013) Review by krainzse from United States

"Now You See Me" is has a wonderful cast and story lines that surprisedand charmed me. I already know that I want to see the film again toscrutinize the misdirection that pervades both the on-screen "magic"acts and the overlaying plot lines.

The film has three principal sets of characters--first, theillusionists who are brought together by an unseen force to build aspectacular act, including at least one bank robbery, played out onlocation in Las Vegas, New Orleans, and NYC; second, law enforcement, including the FBI and a lovely French Interpol agent (Melanie Laurent);and third, the observers, including Michael Caine as a financial backerand Morgan Freeman as a magic-act debunker. Caine and Freeman are theirusual wonderful selves, each playing a superficially archetypal rolewhich is then revealed to be not all that it seems as the plot unfolds. The FBI and Interpol are necessary characters for the plot, and MarkRuffalo and Ms. Laurent do well considering their characters exist inpart to be duped by the illusionists. The actors who portray theillusionists--Isla Fisher, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and DaveFranco-- infuse their roles with great energy, charm, and wit, albeit atheatrically glib wit. I and others in the theater remarked that wewould have liked to see more of them on screen.

The plot is too complex for me to do it justice before seeing the filmagain; suffice it to say, it involves four illusionists who build acomplex act that seems to involve crimes which the FBI theninvestigates with comical frustration.

The movie is worth seeing for the actors, the visuals, the locations, and the misdirection and plot twists. I am sure that a careful scrutinywill imply some plot holes that will bother some viewers, but I alsobelieve that an even more careful scrutiny would reveal that some'holes' are not as deep as they seem at first. "Now You See Me" is awonderful summer movie with great performances, surprising plot twists, and a "feel-good" energy.
